New Name ... Same Great Style!

Hello out there!

I just wanted to share with everyone that we have changed our name - you may have noticed - as part of our "growing process"! With the arrival of baby bug #3, I had been feeling like a re-vamp was in order. So I buckled down and enlisted the help of some amazing people (Lauren of Peapods and Birdsnests and Nicole Leebeck Photography) and VOILA! Avenue Thirteen was born!

I'm still your host, Amber, but everything you see from me moving forward will be under my new name! Still the same great quality you've come to expect from me - but with a new vibe and new experience.... and a tutorial or two! :)

I hope to see you on Avenue Thirteen!

Unveiling the Herringbone Dress!

So for the sewalong with SewCanShe I decided to take my 6 blocks and turn them into something beautiful - a unique dress for my gorgeous green-eyed baby bug!

Then I decided to whip up an adorable mini tophat from Goosie Girl with some of the diamond print I had left over - its a Michael Miller fabric and its so so so pretty!

I have to give a special shout out to Nicole Leebeck Photography for the AMAZING photos. She's been photographing my kids and my creations for 2 years now, she's one of my best friends and is so incredibly talented. If you live in the Va Beach area - look her up! I promise you will love every second and every photo! :)

Chugging along with my sew-a-long!

So this month I decided to join the sew-along with Sew Can She -and it featured a spectacular herringbone pattern from Bijou Lovely Designs {check it out here!} - and I've had *sew* (teeehee) much fun with it! I already have big plans for other items with this pattern. Now, I'm not going to tell you what I'm making yet, I want that to be a surprise, but I do want to share with you the progress I've made!

First I cut my fabrics into strips! I lost count a few times, but I needed a total of 84 strips for the project I'm working on!

Then I lined them up, just like the Bijou tutorial, making sure that I made them mirror images of each other, that way my herringbone pattern alternates directions!

Then I took out my quilting square and trimmed my pieces down to the right size! 

Then I sewed the two halves together!

Super easy, right?! Its modern, chevrons are sooooo "in" right now, but its eclectic - you don't have to make each part of the chevron match up if you don't want to - its the perfect use for those scraps that are lying around! I've already started pulling out my scraps that are big enough, I'm going to make a totally random one of these too, just for fun! :)
